Precision Risk Assessment with TissueCypher®
At the Center for Gastroenterology & Metabolic Diseases, we are enhancing the care of patients with Barrett’s esophagus through the use of TissueCypher®, a precision medicine test that helps predict the likelihood of disease progression. By analyzing tissue from a routine biopsy, TissueCypher delivers a 5-year personalized risk score—helping to identify which patients are low, intermediate, or high risk for developing esophageal cancer. This powerful insight enables our care team to create a more accurate, proactive treatment plan tailored to each individual.

Frequently Asked Questions
TissueCypher® is an advanced test that analyzes a biopsy sample from your esophagus to predict your personal risk of developing esophageal cancer if you have Barrett’s esophagus.
If you have Barrett’s esophagus, your risk of cancer depends on several factors. TissueCypher® provides a clearer, more personalized risk assessment to help guide your care plan—whether that means continued monitoring or more proactive treatment.
There’s no additional procedure required. The test uses tissue already collected during your regular endoscopy and biopsy. Your healthcare team sends this tissue to a specialized lab for analysis.
You and your doctor will receive a report with:
- A risk classification (low, intermediate, or high risk)
- A risk score (from 0 to 10)
- Your estimated 5-year risk of progression to cancer
Knowing your personal risk helps your healthcare provider recommend the best next steps. Low-risk patients may need less frequent monitoring, while higher-risk patients can benefit from closer follow-up or early treatment to help prevent cancer.
Castle Biosciences works with all major insurance providers, including Medicare, Medicaid, and the VA. Financial assistance programs are also available to ensure access to testing for all patients.
