As we enter October, Oswego Health stands firm in its commitment to serve as a vital community resource in the national effort to raise awareness about breast cancer and emphasize the importance of early detection during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. With approximately 1 in 8 women in the United States facing a breast cancer diagnosis each year, the significance of regular screenings and self-examinations cannot be overstated.

Breast cancer impacts not only individuals but also families and the broader community. Early detection through mammograms can lead to significantly improved treatment outcomes. Oswego Health strongly encourages all women aged 40 and over to schedule a mammogram. At the same time, those with a family history or other risk factors should consult their healthcare providers to determine an appropriate screening timeline.

Oswego Health is proud to offer a comprehensive array of resources designed to support our community in the fight against breast cancer:

Expert Care: Our dedicated team of specialists in breast health includes esteemed surgeons Dr. Lisa Lai, Dr. Duane Tull, and Dr. Ryan Walker, who are committed to providing the highest standard of care, and our radiologists, who deliver high-quality interpretations.

State-of-the-Art Technology: At Oswego Health, we utilize advanced diagnostic tools, including Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exams available at the Oswego Health Service Center and Fulton Medical Center. For those seeking 2D Mammography, the Central Square Medical Center offers services. We have recently introduced cutting-edge 3D-guided breast biopsy technology at Fulton Medical Center, employing the Hologic® Affirm® Prone Breast Biopsy System and the Brevera® Breast Biopsy System. This innovative approach combines tissue acquisition, real-time imaging, and post-biopsy handling into a minimally invasive procedure.

SAVI SCOUT® Localization System: Our breast care program also features the SAVI SCOUT® Localization System, which utilizes non-radioactive radar technology for precise surgical guidance in real-time.

Local Partnerships: In collaboration with Oswego County Opportunities (OCO), the Cancer Services Program of the North Country offers free breast cancer screenings for eligible individuals. This essential service ensures that all community members have access to necessary care, regardless of their financial

circumstances. For further information about the Cancer Services Program, please get in touch with 315-592-0830 or visit www.oco.org.

As we observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Oswego Health urges community members to take proactive steps. Whether scheduling a mammogram, performing self-examinations, or participating in local awareness events, your engagement is vital in making a difference.

Together, we can empower our community and strive toward a future free from breast cancer.
