Going the Extra Mile: How One Nurse Made a Big Difference
When 11-year-old Adelena cut her foot and needed stitches, her mom Alyssa knew it was going to be a stressful experience. But thanks to Sandy Hargrave, RN, and the Fulton Urgent Care team, what could have been a frightening visit turned into a moment of comfort and care.
Alyssa shared, “Sandy was so helpful and kind. She told Adelena stories and kept her entertained while she was getting her stitches. We were so grateful because my daughter was very anxious. After everything was done, she even gave my daughter a hug and a couple of prizes. Sandy is a wonderful nurse, and we are so happy she was there right when we needed her most.”
What made Sandy’s care even more remarkable? Technically, she was in triage that day and not assigned to Adelena—but she didn’t hesitate to step in. She took the time to build a relationship with Adelena, keeping her calm and occupied during the procedure. As Alyssa put it, “You don’t find that often—someone willing to go that extra mile with a kid.”
Adelena is now doing much better, and her mom is full of gratitude—not just for Sandy, but for the entire Fulton Urgent Care team. “We’ve been to Urgent Care several times, and every time they deliver. From convenience to just all-around exceptional care, we feel so cared for.”
This story is a shining example of our We Care mantra in action. Sandy and the Fulton Urgent Care team remind us that the little extras—stories, hugs, and thoughtful attention—can make a big difference in a patient’s experience.
Amazing job, Sandy, and thank you to our entire Fulton Urgent Care team for the care and compassion you bring every day!
