From Patient to Nurse: How Amanda March Followed Her Calling with Support from Oswego Health

For Amanda March, RN, nursing was always in her heart—but life, responsibilities, and the demands of raising a family often delayed her dream.

Working as a medical assistant at Oswego Health’s Center for Gastroenterology & Metabolic Diseases, Amanda already had years of experience in healthcare. But it wasn’t until her own health journey that she knew she had to do more.

During a complicated pregnancy, Amanda was transferred to Crouse Hospital, where a nurse’s compassion and presence changed her life.

“She didn’t just treat me—she saw me,” Amanda remembers.

That moment sparked a fire. Amanda knew she wanted to become that nurse for someone else.

She turned to Oswego Health’s Tuition Assistance Program to help make her dream a reality. “The process was so smooth. I was connected with the right people, and they even checked in on me during the semester to see how I was doing,” Amanda said.

With financial support and encouragement from her team at Oswego Health, Amanda enrolled in the nursing program at Bryant & Stratton and began the journey to her BSN. She didn’t go it alone. Her leader, Monica Rupert, worked with her to adjust her schedule. Her family pitched in at home—Amanda is a wife, a mom of three, and a proud pet owner—so she could focus on studying.

“There were moments when I wondered if I could do it,” Amanda admits. “But I had support every step of the way.”

Now a Registered Nurse after passing her NCLEX, Amanda brings not only clinical skill but deep empathy to her patients. She’s walked in their shoes. She’s felt the difference the right nurse can make.

At Oswego Health, we’re proud to support employees like Amanda—those who work hard, dream big, and change lives.

Congratulations, Amanda. You’re not just a nurse—you’re an inspiration.
