Oswego Health is proud to announce its participation in the internationally acclaimed DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses®. This program recognizes the clinical skills and compassionate care nurses provide every day to patients and their families.

At Oswego Health, We Care is more than just a motto—it’s the guiding principle that shapes every patient interaction. The introduction of the DAISY Award is an exciting opportunity to shine a light on the remarkable nurses whose dedication exemplifies this commitment.

The DAISY Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes by his family after he passed away in 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). Deeply moved by the care Patrick received, his family created the DAISY Award as a way to express gratitude to nurses everywhere. Today, the DAISY Award is celebrated in thousands of healthcare facilities worldwide.

“Nurses go above and beyond every day,” said Missy Purtell, RN, BSN, MSN, Vice President of Nursing Operations at Oswego Health. “We are proud to be among the healthcare organizations participating in the DAISY Award program. Our nurses must know how deeply they are appreciated, and this award provides a powerful way to celebrate their impact.”

Patients, families, and colleagues are invited to nominate nurses who have demonstrated extraordinary care. A dedicated committee at Oswego Health will review nominations quarterly and select honorees. Each DAISY Award recipient will be recognized at a public celebration attended by peers, patients, and leadership.

Award recipients receive:

• A certificate commending them as an “Extraordinary Nurse,”
• A DAISY Award pin to wear proudly, and
• A hand-carved sculpture titled “A Healer’s Touch”, created by artists in Zimbabwe’s Shona Tribe.

“Nurses are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do,” said Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation. “The kind of care provided at Oswego Health reflects the very spirit of the DAISY Award—compassion, dedication, and excellence in every interaction.”
