Oswego Health knows that a highly educated workforce strengthens the quality of care provided to its patients. That’s why Oswego Health offers its 1,302 employees a Tuition Assistance Program and flexible work schedules to support individuals interested in enhancing their careers, all while maintaining a work/life balance.
As a regional healthcare leader, Oswego Health believes in investing in its employees and so in 2020, launched a tuition assistance program for those looking to advance their training. To date, a total of 63 employees have benefited from the program with Oswego Health financially investing over $685,000.
Among those who have taken advantage of the opportunity is Jennifer Fassano, RN. Fassano is the Director of the Emergency Department at Oswego Hospital, was one of 20 employees who received tuition assistance in 2023 to advance their training and education and Oswego Health is proud to share that she graduated from Western Governors University with her Master of Science in Nursing Leadership and Management.
Fassano is married and has two young children and describes how beneficial the online program through Western Governors University, combined with a flexible schedule at work, ultimately provided her the opportunity to continue her education.
Fassano shares, “I am beyond thankful for this opportunity and for Oswego Health believing in me. Not only did they help pay for my Masters but also my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. In April I will also be enrolling for my MBA in Healthcare Management as I want to continue to enhance my skills so that I can be the best leader possible for my team.”
Fassano earned her Bachelor’s in Psychology in 2012 from SUNY Oswego and had a drive for emergency services as she started her career in healthcare as an EMT for Oswego County Ambulance. She transitioned from ambulance to the Emergency Department and in 2014, Oswego Health was fortunate to have her join the team as an ED Tech while pursuing her AAS in Nursing at Cayuga Community College. After graduation, she jumped right in as a Graduate Nurse in the Emergency Department until she became fully licensed as a Registered Nurse in 2016. In May 2021 Jen was promoted to Senior RN before earning the title of Director of the Emergency Department later that year.
The Tuition Assistance program offers up to $10,000 per year to current employees at Oswego Health looking to advance their training in nursing, medical imaging, or laboratory science. In addition, Oswego Health offers on-the-job training for phlebotomy and a paid certification program for those looking to become Certified Nursing Assistants at Seneca Hill Manor. New employees or those interested in working for Oswego Health are also eligible to apply at www.oswegohealth.org/careers.
