Oswego Health is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Azzarello, BSN, NREMT, to the role of Emergency Management Coordinator. Azzarello, a seasoned healthcare professional with extensive experience in emergency medical services and public health, will oversee emergency preparedness, safety protocols, and wellness initiatives across Oswego Health’s 18 campuses and among its 1,400 employees.

The Emergency Management Coordinator is a critical position within Oswego Health, ensuring the safety of patients, visitors, and staff across the system. Azzarello will oversee the emergency management program, implement safety drills, and provide ongoing training on mental health and wellness, emergency preparedness, and crisis response. His responsibilities will include coordinating emergency preparedness initiatives, facilitating compliance with federal regulations, and managing the organization’s Continuity of Operations Plan.

In addition to his safety responsibilities, Azzarello will act as a liaison to external partners, including local emergency services, healthcare coalitions, and law enforcement agencies, to ensure an organized and coordinated response during potential disasters. His leadership will help guide Oswego Health in maintaining a safe environment while ensuring the institution’s ability to respond to and recover from various emergencies, from natural disasters to human-caused crises.

Katie Pagliaroli, MS, BSN, RN, Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Nursing Officer of Oswego Health, expressed confidence in Azzarello’s ability to lead this vital function, saying: “We are incredibly fortunate to welcome Mark Azzarello to the Oswego Health team. His background in emergency medical services and healthcare, combined with his commitment to patient safety and well-being, makes him an invaluable asset in this essential role. In his position, Mark will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our patients, staff, and visitors are safe and that we are prepared for any situation that may arise. We have full confidence in Mark’s ability to coordinate and enhance our emergency management efforts, and his leadership will be key to maintaining our organization’s readiness in times of crisis.”

Azzarello brings a wealth of experience to Oswego Health, having worked in the medical field since 2017. He has served in various roles, including Community Health Technician and Emergency Medical Technician with UPMC, where he played an instrumental role in public health initiatives, including the launch of COVID-19 testing and vaccination programs. Azzarello has also worked as an Emergency Room

Technician and Medical Assistant, providing hands-on care to patients and assisting in emergency response efforts across multiple healthcare settings.

“I am honored to join the Oswego Health team in this crucial role,” said Azzarello. “My goal is to ensure the safety and preparedness of our facilities, staff, and the communities we serve. I look forward to working with such a dedicated team to create and maintain effective emergency management strategies, which will allow us to provide the highest level of care in times of need.”

Azzarello will begin his new role immediately and contribute to Oswego Health’s ongoing commitment to providing safe, high-quality care.
