The Oswego Health Foundation proudly announced that its 10th Annual For Your Health 5K and Wellness Event, presented by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield and Constellation, raised more than $33,000 to benefit patient care in the community. Held on August 9th, the event brought together 204 participants along with dozens of local vendors, supporters, and community members for a day filled with fitness, fun, and community spirit.
Proceeds from this year’s event will directly support the addition of a Pulmonology and Critical Care Clinic at Oswego Hospital, which will provide vital inpatient and outpatient services and address a critical healthcare need for Oswego County residents.
Auyer Race Timing & Event Management tracked the results for the 5K. This year’s overall winner was Hunter Matteson of Oswego, who crossed the finish line with an impressive time of 19:10. Top male finishers also included Thomas Wood of Fulton at 20:13 and Anton Porcari of Oswego at 21:44, while the top female finishers were Molly Fitzgibbons of Constantia at 21:09, Dr. Joan Newell of Oswego at 24:00, and Abby Molinari of Oswego at 24:46.
The milestone year brought extra excitement with friendly competitions and contests. Novelis took home the title of Company Competition winner. The wheelchair-decorating contest was won by Dr. Karen Stanley and her mother, Stella. Nic Smalt from the Oswego Town Volunteer Fire Department claimed first place in the individual costume contest, and the group costume contest was awarded to the spirited “Heart and Soul of the Manor” team.
The Wellness Event was bustling with activity as community members explored booths, gathered resources, and enjoyed interactive displays from vendors and local organizations. Highlights included a race car display by Oswego Health employee Crystal O’Connor, face painting by Char Hemple, and wellness education from groups such as The Organic Earthling, the YMCA, Oswego County Health Department, Farnham, OCO Cancer Services, St. Agatha Foundation, Menter Ambulance, Mercy Flight, Excellus, Oswego Police Department, Suicide Prevention Coalition, Fidelis, Oswego County Emergency Management Drone Team, and the Shineman Foundation. Oswego Health was well-represented with teams from Primecare, the Center for Surgical Services, the Center for Gastroenterology & Metabolic Diseases—complete with an inflatable colon exhibit—and the Lobdell Center for Mental Health and Wellness at Lakeview.
Reflecting on the day, Michele Hourigan, Director of Business and Community Development for the Oswego Health Foundation, shared her gratitude, stating, “This event continues to inspire me year after year. To see so many individuals, businesses, and organizations come together in support of our mission is incredible. The generosity of our community allows us to bring vital services, like our upcoming Pulmonology and Critical Care Clinic, right here to CNY. We are deeply thankful to every participant, sponsor, and volunteer who made this milestone year so special.”
