Provider Spotlight: Dr. Girish Trikha

At Oswego Health, our providers do more than deliver care—they build programs, strengthen our community, and change lives. This Provider Spotlight shines on Girish Trikha, MD, a board-certified pulmonologist and critical care physician whose expertise, innovation, and patient-first approach are helping bring advanced pulmonary care closer to home.

Dr. Trikha is the founder of CNY Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine in East Syracuse and has been instrumental in launching our Pulmonology service line. While he is currently onsite one week each month, exciting growth is ahead: beginning in April, the Pulmonology office—located in HSC —will be fully staffed five days a week, significantly expanding access for our patients and community.

The professional side Dr. Trikha brings decades of experience across pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of the West Indies after completing undergraduate studies in biology at Rutgers University. He went on to complete his internal medicine residency and pulmonary/critical care fellowship at SUNY Upstate Medical University, along with specialized training at the National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver.

Professionally, Dr. Trikha serves as:

  • Chief of Pulmonary and Sleep Clinic at CNY Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine

  • Attending Physician in Pulmonary and Critical Care at St. Joseph’s Hospital

  • Associate Professor and Attending Physician at Upstate Medical University

One of Dr. Trikha’s primary clinical interests is lung cancer, a critical focus given the high incidence rates in Central New York. He is also at the forefront of innovation, performing robotic (ION) bronchoscopy, a cutting-edge, minimally invasive procedure that allows for earlier and more precise lung cancer diagnosis. Outside of Upstate University, Dr. Trikha is currently the only physician in the community offering this advanced technology.

Why pulmonology?

For Dr. Trikha, pulmonology and critical care are deeply connected. The fast-paced, procedural nature of ICU medicine drew him in early, while pulmonary care allowed him to form long-term relationships with patients managing chronic conditions after leaving the ICU.

“It’s a very diverse specialty,” he explains. “Pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine allow me to do many different things—from intensive procedures to long-term patient care—which is incredibly rewarding.”

That diversity, paired with a strong community need, solidified his passion for the field and his commitment to serving this region.

Why Oswego Health?

Dr. Trikha’s connection to Oswego County began organically—many patients from Fulton and Oswego were already traveling to East Syracuse for care. To make access easier, he opened a small satellite clinic locally, which quickly filled despite limited availability. The demand was clear.

“There was no pulmonary service here, and patients needed it,” he says.

Partnering with Oswego Health allowed Dr. Trikha to bring specialty care directly to the community— reducing travel burdens, keeping patients closer to family, and strengthening continuity of care. He also recognized the opportunity to expand critical care services locally, helping patients remain in the community, rather than being transferred.

Being part of Oswego Health’s first pulmonary team is especially meaningful.

“We’re the pioneers of pulmonary medicine here,” Dr. Trikha shares. “The hospital and staff have been incredibly supportive, and there’s real excitement about growing this program, expanding ICU capabilities, and keeping more care local.”

Outside the clinic

When he’s not caring for patients, Dr. Trikha is a devoted family man. He and his wife—also a physician, a radiologist—have two children, one currently in college and one in high school. The family has called Central New York home for nearly 25 years.

They embrace everything Upstate New York has to offer, especially the winters.

“We’re winter sports people,” he laughs.

Dr. Trikha snowboards, his wife skis, and both children are involved in ski racing. In the warmer months, the family enjoys traveling, hiking, and exploring the region—often choosing snow over rain any day.

Why this matters

At Oswego Health, our providers are more than healthcare professionals— they are neighbors, innovators, and leaders who care deeply about the communities we serve. Dr. Trikha embodies that spirit, combining advanced clinical expertise with compassion and a commitment to making high-quality care accessible close to home.

Dr. Trikha is currently accepting new patients.
