From Respiratory Therapy to World Champion: Stephanie Canale’s Powerlifting Journey

By day, Stephanie Canale, MHA, BS, RRT, leads our Respiratory Therapy team with skill, compassion, and dedication. By… well, also day (and some early mornings), she’s a World Champion Power Lifter!

This past October, Stephanie stepped onto the world stage, lifting 465 lbs. in the Iron Maiden—a combination of squats, deadlifts, and bench presses— all while competing in the 132 lbs. weight class. Let’s pause for a second… 132 lbs. body weight. 465 lbs. lifted. Holy moly!

Stephanie’s power-lifting journey is a family affair. Her father, brother, uncle, and even her 12-year-old son all compete. Last year, the family qualified for the World Champion platform, and this year, they cheered Stephanie on in pink attire with the motto “Lift like a girl”—making a statement in this traditionally male-dominated sport.

You might wonder why a busy mom of two and Director of Respiratory Therapy chooses to power lift.

Stephanie explains, “Women often get lost being moms, wives… which is all wonderful—but we miss who we are ourselves. I tell myself: 60 minutes is mine. However, I want and whatever I want to do, 60 minutes a day is for me. Setting goals and seeing results motivates me, and I found that in fitness. My message to all women is: find time for yourself and don’t feel guilty—you deserve it.”

Her efforts paid off in a huge trophy and a massive championship ring, but Stephanie is already looking ahead: she’ll compete again in April 2026, reset her goals, and keep showing what women can do—on the platform and in life.

“It was nerve-wracking, but the adrenaline rush was incredible. You’re in front of a huge crowd, competing all alone. But when I’m on that platform, it’s my moment.”

Stephanie, we are so proud of you—for your dedication, strength, and for inspiring us all to find our own moments to shine.
