From Bait Shop to Central Sterile: John Lutz Casts into Leadership at Oswego Health
Oswego Health is proud to celebrate the promotion of John Lutz to Central Sterile Manager—a role that perfectly reflects his 15+ year journey of growth, dedication, and leadership within our health system.
John’s story is uniquely Oswego. His family moved here permanently in 2004, opening a local bait and tackle shop after years of vacationing in the area for its incredible fishing. Inspired by his mother, an operating room nurse at Oswego Health, John joined the Central Sterile department in 2009. Over the years, he earned his certification, advanced to senior roles, and gained broader experience in direct patient care—all of which shaped him into the leader he is today.
Now managing a team of eight, John blends technical expertise with a supportive, people-first leadership style. “I focus on the details, but I’m not a micromanager,” he says. “I want to make sure everyone has the tools and support they need to get the job done.”
When he’s not in the hospital, John is often on the water—literally. Through his fishing guide service, Guide on the Side, he spends over 100 days a year helping others discover the peace, focus, and joy of fishing the Salmon River and beyond.
Whether in the hospital or on the river, John is a guide in every sense—leading with purpose, patience, and pride. Congratulations, John!
