Dream Achieved: Ruth Vasquez, DNP, FNP, Reaches a Career Milestone
At Oswego Health, we love celebrating the achievements of our team members—especially when their stories inspire us all to dream big. Today, we’re spotlighting an exceptional nurse practitioner from our Center for Surgical Services: Ruth Vasquez, DNP, FNP.
Ruth recently earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Frontier Nursing University—a significant academic and professional milestone. Completing this rigorous 18-month online program while continuing to care for her patients, working full time, and raising her two teenage daughters (ages 14 and 15) is a remarkable accomplishment on its own. But for Ruth, the motivation behind this achievement makes it even more special.
“I wanted to do this for myself, for my girls, and for my patients,” Ruth shared. “I want my daughters to know that even as a mom, a nurse, and a busy professional, you can still chase your goals—and catch them.”
A proud Oswego native, Ruth began her career at Oswego Health as a Medical-Surgical Nurse, moved into Maternity, and later pursued her Nurse Practitioner degree. Now, as a Doctor of Nursing Practice, she brings evidence-based care to the forefront and continues to elevate the level of care provided to patients across our health system.
Ruth is also a first-generation Latina college graduate—the first in her family to earn both a master’s degree and now a doctorate. Her incredible journey is one of dedication, resilience, and heart.
Her DNP enhances her clinical expertise and also creates new opportunities for leadership in education and mentorship—areas she looks forward to exploring as her career evolves.
