Celebrating Growth

At Oswego Health, we believe that when our people grow, our patients and our communities benefit. Through our Tuition Assistance Program, we are proud to support employees who are driven to learn more, lead more, and do more—both professionally and personally. Today, we’re excited to recognize two outstanding team members whose commitment to education reflects their passion for excellence in patient care.
Kim Maitland, RN, BSN – a journey fueled by purpose
Congratulations to Kim Maitland, who recently completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) through Southern New Hampshire University, earning her diploma at the commencement ceremony on November 23, 2025—and graduating with an impressive 3.82 GPA, Magna Cum Laude honors, and placement on the Honor Roll every term.
Kim’s journey with Oswego Health spans nearly two decades. She joined us in 2006 as a unit secretary, transitioned to a patient care technician in 2011, and—motivated by her desire to care even more deeply for patients—pursued nursing school, becoming an RN in 2022 through our Tuition Assistance Program. Her most recent academic accomplishment builds on that foundation and reflects her unwavering commitment to lifelong learning.
Kim shared that the Tuition Assistance Program made this achievement possible, allowing her to balance work, school, and family—including time with her 11 grandchildren—while completing her BSN in just 13 months.
Beyond the classroom, Kim’s studies expanded her perspective on patient care, particularly around social determinants of health and how socioeconomic factors impact patients after discharge. This knowledge enhances the compassionate, informed care she provides every day on the med-surg floor—where she remains a consistent, trusted presence amid ongoing staffing changes.
Kim also expressed gratitude to her colleagues, noting the support of Nursing Supervisors Kim Hyde and Amber Shumway, whose mentorship and shared expertise contributed to her academic success. From leadership insights to quality improvement initiatives focused on youth substance abuse resources, their collaboration exemplifies the power of teamwork at Oswego Health.
Kim’s story is a powerful reminder of how dedication, support, and opportunity can come together to make a lasting impact
Jennifer Fassano, MBA – leading with vision
We are proud to recognize Jennifer Fassano, Director of the Emergency Department, who recently earned her Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Healthcare from Western Governors University. Jen completed the two-year online program while balancing the demands of leading a fast-paced Emergency Department, with support through Oswego Health’s career pathway program and tuition assistance. Her dedication to continued learning reflects a strong commitment to advancing healthcare delivery, operational excellence, and strategic leadership for the benefit of both patients and staff. A true lifelong learner, Jen is always seeking opportunities to grow her skills—not just for herself, but for her team and the community we serve—and we have no doubt this achievement is just one milestone in her ongoing professional journey.
