Anthony's Story: A Life-changing Act of Compassion

When Anthony walked into our Emergency Room, he had no idea that the kindness and dedication of three Oswego Health caregivers would ultimately save his life.

He was struggling with dizziness, weakness, and fatigue from ongoing GI bleeding. A colonoscopy and endoscopy had already been scheduled—but then canceled when he couldn’t find anyone to accompany him home afterward. Despite reaching out to family, friends, and even his care manager, Anthony was left with no support person and a growing sense of hopelessness.

That’s when his care team—Rebecca (ER Nurse Practitioner), Jeremy (ER Charge Nurse), and Amber (Nursing Supervisor)—stepped in. After listening to his story, they refused to let red tape or circumstance stand in the way of his care. Together, they worked to coordinate an observation stay so Anthony could safely undergo his procedures and recover overnight.

THAT DECISION CHANGED EVERYTHING.

On October 24, Anthony had his colonoscopy— and it revealed a cancerous tumor. Because of the compassion and persistence of his care team, the cancer was caught early, giving him the best possible chance for recovery.

IN ANTHONY’S OWN WORDS: “Their kindness, advocacy, and commitment to patient care brought me to tears. They didn’t just do their jobs—they changed my future. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for seeing me as more than just another patient and for making sure I got the care I desperately needed.”

Rebecca, Jeremy, and Amber—your actions embody our We Care mantra. You went above and beyond for this patient, turning compassion into life-saving care. Because of you, Anthony has a fighting chance—and a future.
