Oswego Health will once again lead off the Harborfest Children’s Parade and offer an afternoon of fun activities for children at Franklin Square on Friday, July 24th.

The parade begins at Breitbeck Park at 1:30 p.m. and proceeds along West Fifth Street to Franklin Square/West Park. Oswego Health has long been a sponsor of this popular Harborfest children’s event. Along the route, members of the health system’s Sun Patrol will hand out small tubes of sunscreen. This initiative was first undertaken more than 25 years ago after staff from Oswego Hospital’s emergency room noted that many young children were seeking treatment for severe sunburn during Harborfest.

Once the parade arrives at Franklin Square, Oswego Health will have fun activities that include an obstacle course for children of all ages. There will also be a putting green and a football toss game, all part of the health system’s efforts to promote healthy kids.

Also that afternoon at the park, Springside at Seneca Hill, an Oswego Health affiliate, is sponsoring the sounds of big band music performed by members of the Frank Sacci Band at 1:15 p.m.

In addition, the Oswego Health system will also provide the necessary medical supplies used throughout the weekend by the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT). Local EMTs will have first aid comfort stations throughout various parks and venues being used during the weekend celebration.
