Leandro Bernardo, MD joins Oswego Hospital
Leandro Bernardo, MD, who recently completed his fellowship at Saint Louis University, has joined the active medical staff of Oswego Hospital and will be part of the healthcare facility’s hospitalist team.
As a hospitalist, Dr. Bernardo will care for inpatients at Oswego Hospital, whose primary care physicians have opted to take advantage of the healthcare facility’s hospitalist program. It has become a trend throughout the country in recent years for primary care physicians to have hospitalists care for their hospitalized patients, allowing them to remain in their offices during the daytime and eliminating their hospital on-call duties. Oswego hospital implemented a hospitalist program in 2009.
Dr. Bernardo, like the other hospitalists at Oswego Hospital is a board-certified internist. A member of the hospitalist team is always in the hospital, able to provide care, including the ordering of tests and procedures. Since a hospitalist is always available, they can conveniently discuss the plan of care with the patient and their visiting family members.
“I am very much looking forward to caring for the hospital’s patients as part of the hospitalist team,” Dr. Bernardo said. “It’s important for the patients to know the details and goals of their plan of care. Just as vital to their care is the integral role of the patient’s family and I plan on working with both the patients and their families to ensure excellent healthcare is provided.”
Dr. Bernardo earned his medical degree cum laude from the University of the Philippines, in Manila. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Good Samaritan Hospital in Maryland, which is affiliated with Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
During his final year of residency, he was chief resident for internal medicine and he had the distinction as the most outstanding resident in his graduating class.
Dr. Bernardo added that he was excited about settling in the Oswego area. He enjoys playing tennis and badminton, as well as cooking and traveling.
