To keep our residents safe when cycling, and to reduce the number of injured cyclists who visit our emergency department, the Oswego Hospital Emergency Department provides a free bicycle helmet program. Each year, department members fit hundreds of individuals with a free bike helmet.
Overseeing the program is Margaret Beers, clinical coordinator in the Emergency Department. Anyone who is unable to afford a helmet is welcome to come to the Emergency Department and be properly fitted for one. To obtain a proper fit, the individual seeking the free helmet, must visit the department themselves.
Law enforcement agencies and the county health department have recognized thes important community service program, and regularly refer parents and children to the department to be fitted for a helmet.
The program is funded through generous donations made by community members and organizations. Anyone interested in participating in, or donating to, this program can contact the ED at (315) 349-5522.
